Abstract
This study examines teachers’ participation and experiences in doing math virtually and together to gain mathematical knowledge and build communities of practice in the first workshop of an online three-part workshop series. We seek to understand the value teachers place on doing problem solving as part of a community of practice. To do this we analyze participants' responses to a discussion board prompt and interview questions. Preliminary findings reveal participants value in community support when problem solving and sharing their work and examining that of others provided insight into their own thinking.
