Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitalization
Handbook of Evidence-Based Day Treatment Programs for Children and Adolescents, pp 435-446
2022
Abstract
Inpatient psychiatry is an important component of the mental health continuum of care that frequently interfaces with intensive outpatient and partial hospital programs. Inpatient units often discharge patients to IOP and PHP programs as appropriate step-down options. This chapter discusses the role of inpatient psychiatry in the mental health continuum of care for youth, coordination of care between programs, and considerations regarding discharge planning from inpatient units.
