During the past decade, online mathematics teacher education (OMTE) has become quite popular among university administrators, faculty and school personnel. During the past two PME conferences, a core group of researchers have engaged in informal discussions and formal Discussion Groups focusing on various aspects of the emerging field of OMTE. These previous discussion groups produced lively conversation about the various research programs that study OMTE as well as to better understand the current state of OMTE as a field of inquiry.
