Digital Library Evaluation Method Design
08 Apr 2011
Abstract
Usability testing is a method widely used for evaluating digital libraries. While there is sufficient literature on conducting evaluation of digital library interfaces, few studies have incorporated user feedback in developing evaluation instruments. Moreover, few studies evaluate completely online digital libraries such as the ipl2 (Internet Public Library). Users in this study were asked to rate the ipl2 website according to selected usability criteria and were then asked to rate the importance of the usability criteria used in that survey. Feedback from users regarding the survey was used to redesign the survey. The results of this research indicate an overall improvement in users' perceived importance of the usability criteria after redesign of the evaluation instrument based on user feedback. This study offers implications for a potential model for designing evaluation methods.
