Abstract
A Graduate Engineering Technology Online Course in Sustainable and Green Manufacturing AbstractThis paper describes the development of a new graduate engineering technology onlinecourse in sustainable and green manufacturing. The course is intended to provide an in-depth overview of environmental issues in manufacturing and industrial resources toreduce the environmental impact of their produced products and services. Greenmanufacturing is an emerging field in recent years and is also the sustainabledevelopment model for modern manufacturing industries. Sustainable greenmanufacturing encompasses the design of manufacturing processes designed to result inenergy conservation, pollution prevention or reduction, and increased health and safety ofcommunities, employees, and consumers. The goal of this paper is to implement thecurrent graduate engineering technology online program at Drexel University (DU) withregard to sustainable and green manufacturing in our predominantly manufacturing-basedcurriculum. In this paper we will discuss key environmental topics that can be integratedinto manufacturing coursework at DU to include sustainability principles. Finally, thegraduate online course has been taught, evaluated, and reviewed to indentify barriers tothe inclusion of sustainable green manufacturing course into the current curriculum.
