Abstract
This work describes a simulation platform used to study and test grid control schemes for electric power distribution systems. The effectiveness of proposed control schemes can be simulated using the platform and prototyped within a hardware testbed capable of realizing a wide range of operating conditions. Examples of the platform capabilities, specifically for network reconfiguration, are presented for systems of various sizes. A 9-bus, radial, distribution power system is presented in detail to illustrate the qualitative behavior before and after a network reconfiguration control scheme is performed. This behavior is then verified through experimentation in the hardware laboratory.
