Building Scale-Models as a Sociology Teaching Aid
Association for Humanist Sociology
01 Jan 1977
Abstract
This generation of students craves novelty in instruction, especially of the "hands-on" variety. A technique worth much more experimental use than it presently earns, involves the joint building of a scale-model by a sociology instructor & students. Focus here is on the construction of a model of a city household refit for ecological & environmental improvements. The related discussions helped all to learn more about life styles, social class, social values, social change, & contemporary student interests. While very time-consuming, this model of issue exploration appears pedagogically sound & rewarding.
