Abstract

Anatomy Computer aided engineering Design automation Finite element methods Geometry Implants Mechanical factors Printing Solid modeling Surgery
An integrated CAD/CAE and RPM assisted BioModeling, design and development of inter-vertebral implants for a spine fusion is introduced. The major process of 3D reconstruction of the vertebral anatomy, the design consideration of the inter-vertebral implant, the approach of developing the inter-vertebral implant CAD model, and the integration with a finite element analysis for implant structural analysis are presented. The process of 3D Printing of the vertebral anatomy and the inter-vertebral implant is described. The developed modeling methodology can be applied in assisting the inter-vertebral implant anatomic fitting, surgical planning, and design of the implant geometry and structural mechanical properties.
