Abstract
Two commonly used conditional simulation schemes, the multivariate linear prediction (MLP) and the conditional probability density function (CPDF) methods, are examined herein for conformity of their characteristics with those of actual recorded data. The CPDF method is then utilized in combination with a physical-spectrum-based stochastic scheme and a prescribed coherency model to conditionally simulate non-stationary random fields. Acceleration, velocity and displacement time histories are evaluated, the latter two through integration of the baseline corrected accelerations. The results indicate that the simulated time histories are compatible with the predictive pseudo-velocity response spectra which are dependent on earthquake magnitude, source-site distance and local soil conditions, as well as with the coherency model. The approach appears to be promising for the generation of input excitations in the seismic response evaluation of lifelines.
