Abstract
By means of signal processing techniques and least-square minimization methods applied in analyses of recorded data at dense instrument arrays, the dominant, deterministic waves that contribute significantly to the motions, are identified with their frequency, wavenumber, amplitude and phase. The identification of these characteristics allows the evaluation of the variability in the amplitudes and phases of the wave components at different array stations and the distinction between the deterministic and random contributions to the motions. It also allows realistic predictions or conditional simulations of seismic motions at locations in the vicinity of the array, where data are not available.
