Abstract
The effect of the loss of coherency in spatially variable motions on the seismic response of generic models of lifelines is analyzed. The quasi-static and dynamic response of the structures is evaluated in terms of differential displacements and differential response spectra. It is shown that seismic ground motions that are partially correlated at low frequencies result in the highest quasi-static internal forces in lifelines, whereas motions with slowly decaying coherency produce the highest contribution to the dynamic response.
