Abstract
A high speed fiber optic link is described which uses an LED-based optical transmitter and novel receiver/clock recovery circuit to achieve high bandwidth with low power consumption over extended operating temperatures. Directly and externally modulated LED-based optical transmitters with modulation rates above 1.25 Gb/s are demonstrated. This paper also presents a new low power consumption optical receiver/clock recovery circuit which operates above 1 Gb/s.
