Earthquake response of a 1/5th-scale model of a 7-story reinforced concrete frame-wall structural system

Abstract
The construction and testing of the model at the Univ. of California earthquake simulator is described. Experimental responses and associated studies are used to assess significant inadequacies in current experimental and analytical response prediction and to evaluate the serviceability and ultimate limit state response characteristics of a conceptually designed, detailed, and well-constructed frame-wall structure. Significant overstrengths over the code-specified values of base shear and overturning moment are observed. The low levels of axial and shear stress in all the critical regions of the structure at all limit states are examined.
