Effect of Fiber Sizing on Cure Kinetics of Vinyl Ester RTM Composites

Abstract
The effect of commercially available sized S-2 glass on the cure of vinyl ester systems was studied. Results show a significant increase in the cure rate of the glass modified systems. Furthermore, a relationship between the surface energy characteristics of the fibers and the degree of cure acceleration was established. It is apparent, therefore, that sizing selection may significantly affect cure processes for vinyl ester systems and the processing behavior of RTM parts.
