Abstract

Capacitors Data mining Monitoring Petroleum Power quality Power semiconductor switches Power system modeling Power system transients Transient analysis Voltage
This paper focuses on the extraction of capacitor switching transient times and the evaluation of these time sequences. A unique automated voltage support experiment, responsible for the acquisition of capacitor switching transients and associated transient times, is presented. The network devices responsible for the creation of capacitor switching transients are analyzed. In the experiments presented, the device analyzed is the commonly used General Electric Type FKC-2 motorized oil switch. A 1/f/sup /spl beta// trend is identified in the transient time data sequences, a unique result to the authors' knowledge. This observation introduces the possibility of predicting the future occurrence of a capacitor switching event and, therefore, taking preventive actions to avoid harmful effects due to resulting transients.
