Extending an information systems curriculum to address information technology
Proceedings of the 6th conference on information technology education
20 Oct 2005
Abstract
This paper discusses the design of a BSIT degree program. In this particular case, the institution already has an ABET accredited BS in Information Systems with many courses relevant to a BSIT program. The program design seeks to benefit from this situation by (a) building on the existing set of courses, and (b) having a common first year for both degrees. At the same time, the design seeks to (a) make the programs easy to distinguish from each other, and (b) position the BSIT for ABET accreditation as an IT degree. This paper discusses the approach taken to meet these somewhat conflicting objectives.
