Abstract
Decision support systems (DSS) are effective currently used in business and medical fields to allow professionals to make evidence-based decisions. Such methodology can be applied to education to enable continuous improvement to curriculum and teaching strategies. This implementation will take great planning efforts and development of current technologies, in addition to support from resistant faculty. DDS methodology in education will allow for "closing the loop"-effectively organizing information collected for accreditation processes to be used in real-time. The Drexel University School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems is working collaboratively with Untra Corporation to develop the first Instructional Decision Support System (IDSS), the Academic Evaluation, Feedback and Intervention System-AEFIS. In this paper the authors will discuss the value of the IDSS and its effects on the educational environment.
