Abstract
The importance of the cube texture in recrystallization of Al alloys is outlined. Some evidence that supports and some that challenges the Dillamore and Katoh model for oriented nucleation of cube grains at transition bonds is reviewed. Modification of this model in the light of the relaxed constraints modification of the Taylor description of deformation of polycrystalline materials is developed. If this description is valid then consideration of the starting grain shapes before deformation will be vital in understanding the strength of the recrystallization texture. 41 ref.--AA(UK).
