Research in the field of Dynamical Systems theory is restricted primarily to the study of isolated problems. Little is known about n-dimensional dynamical systems (n > 3). No general program for the study of dynamical systems has yet been enunciated. We argue that the history of the development of two related fields -Lie group theory and Singularity theory -should provide a model for developing a program to accelerate the development Dynamical Systems theory. Some examples are given.
