Abstract
We study the use of local severity indices to predict the severity of changes in the load space in terms of the power system proximity to voltage collapse. These indices are the MW to voltage collapse and the voltage drop to voltage collapse. We attempt to derive a unified performance index that combines a number of local indicators. Our aim here is to provide a means of evaluating the effect of load changes with minimal calculations by making use of the parameters that have been calculated offline. When applying this method, minimal online calculations are needed to estimate the system proximity to voltage collapse.
