Abstract
Object oriented analysis and design (OOAD) has been utilized in modeling of large complex biological system in recent years. Despite its increasing popularity in software engineering OOAD has very limited application in system biology study mainly due to our incomplete understanding of the complicated molecular and cellular processes. Here we present a UML model of cell free protein translation system constructed by OOAD methodology. The major steps of in vitro protein translation process were captured and illustrated in UNH, diagrams. We demonstrated that the OOAD is a useful tool to build the UML model of a well defined and studied in vitro biological system for system biology study.
