Panel: Attracting Students to IT Degrees
SIGITE'18: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 19TH ANNUAL SIG CONFERENCE ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, pp 18-19
01 Jan 2018
Abstract
Computing degrees in the United States experienced a period of low enrollment in the early 2000s, but enrollment has grown significantly at many institutions in recent years. However, it appears that much of this growth has been concentrated in Computer Science (CS) degree programs. Information Technology (IT) degree programs are well-established on the campuses of many SIGITE members, but many of the programs are smaller and less well-known than programs in Computer Science. This panel will address approaches to recruiting students to IT majors, including a discussion of challenges, ways to raise program visibility, and sharing of techniques for helping prospective students understand the focus and opportunities of IT degrees.
