Team projects are common in many computing courses. They allow students to work on larger and more complex tasks, and give students an early experience with extended group work. But team projects can also be difficult to organize, monitor, and evaluate. This panel will provide an opportunity to share issues and approaches in support of successful team projects for IT and other computing students. The importance of teamwork skills is highlighted in the General Requirements of the IT 2017 Curriculum Recommendations including a recommendation that IT degree programs include “Opportunities to work in teams beginning relatively early in the curriculum” (p. 67) [1]. The implementation of team projects can vary widely from first year design courses to integrative capstone experiences. Team projects may also vary based on length of time, team size, evaluation approach, process and deliverables, and instructor role. The goal of this panel is to discuss best practices for team project experiences for IT degree programs. The panel will contrast varied implementations of IT team project experiences to provide a starting point for discussion. Each panelist will briefly describe some aspects of their institution's team projects, discuss the benefits and drawbacks to the implementation, share issues and ideas they have for improving team project experiences. Time will be set aside for audience interactions. Questions for discussion will include: 1. What process and products are appropriate for an IT project? 2. How are teamwork skills taught in the IT degree programs? 3. How should individual vs. team contribution be evaluated? 4. How are IT projects different from team projects for other computing disciplines?
