Problems and Prospects of Tomorrow's Technical/Communications Labor Force: The Air Traffic Controllers' Strike of 1981

Abstract
Interviews with top officials of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers' Union (PATCO) are drawn on, along with 4 surveys of 14,500 PATCO members conducted in the 18 months preceding the strike. Attention is paid to the causes of the labor action, as perceived by leaders & followers alike. After exploring the consequences of the strike for all concerned, discussion focuses on the sociopolitical implications of this sort of governmental response to a union action.
