Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) cell printing is a branch of 3D printing. The application of cell printing is limited by low precision and cell viability. The cell printing system we designed was to improve printing precision and cell viability. This system includes five parts: a three-axis motion system, a material delivery system, a forming environment, a motion-control system and a software system. The printing parameters were also analyzed and optimized. The printing needle has been modified from a common cylinder to a taper to minimize the forming diameter from 0.26 mm to 0.2 mmm for improve the printing precision. For increase cell viability, the shear stress was decreased from 6.2 kPa to 1.74 kPa by modified the printing needle. In a certain range, the optimal printing parameters are as follows: taper needle with a diameter of 0.2 mm, surrounding temperature of 5 degrees C and material temperature of 30 degrees C. Using these parameters, the minimum printed line decreased to 450 mu m and the cell viability (HeLa cell line) up to 90%.
