Abstract

Engineering Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Science & Technology Technology
The goal of this work is to utilize a previously developed mathematical model to describe the combined effects of malignant hypertension and aortic curvature on aortic wall forces. The calculations reveal that malignant hypertension and aortic curvature can combine to produce extremely high forces on the aortic wall, and can predispose patients to aortic dissection. Such a model may have clinical utility for identifying patients at risk for aortic dissection.
