Sand transport over weir jetties and low groins
Physical Modelling in Coastal Engineering, pp 163-198

Abstract
This chapter looks at the data obtained in the second phase of the weir jetty study. It presents a summary of the results obtained from 15 tests run in the shore processes test basin (SPTB) with focus on the first seven tests. Coastal engineering research center’s SPTB is a rectangular basin 150 feet wide, 300 feet long and 4 feet deep. It can be subdivided into smaller sub-basins by the construction of intermediate walls. The model scale was large enough to avoid significant surface tension effects; however, the influence of viscosity on the evolution of the beach profiles undoubtedly had some effect on the outcome of the tests. The results of 15 tests of sand transport over a laboratory weir jetty have been presented along with a number of empirically derived functions which will allow calculation of estimates of sand transport rates and the along-weir distribution of the transport rate.
