Abstract
Data are analyzed from 150 blue-collar Rs, each of whom chose from 5 possible responses in 27 stress-simulation paragraphs, eg, discovery of involvement of coworkers in plant theft; reaction to learning of unwanted pregnancy of a daughter. Cross-tabs are reported by age, sex, race, craft level, educational attainment, & marital status. Comparisons are drawn to populations discussed in the literature on manual workers, & similarities & differences in findings are explored. Reforms in socialization structures (family life, schooling, mass culture, etc) are proposed, as are suggestions for future research.
