Abstract
It is known that the magnitude of the flow component transverse to the sound beam from a transducer can be estimated from the spectral bandwidth. It is shown here that the direction as well as the magnitude of the velocity component in the plane normal to the beam axis can be estimated from the Doppler spectrum, provided that the transducer lacks an axis of circular symmetry along the beam direction.< >
