TRANS DISCIPLINARY: NEW METHODS AND PROCESS FOR TEACHING CREATIVE TRAJECTORIES AND SYNTHESIS

Abstract
Speculative design research and tools for the design of healthy urban spaces in underserved communities with a focus on the residential interior are the focus of this emerging form of teaching methodology. A research-driven collaborative and mentorship approach, this method includes human centered/design thinking processes, interior materials, visualization and advances in building science within the urban home for health. This paper will examine speculative design research, informed design processes and trans-disciplinary collaboration at the heart of a set of novel advances and improvements in the built environment. It will build on interdisciplinary immersive research courses and sessions centered on health, human centered problem solving, sustainability and creativity. Through a research agenda that includes a trans-disciplinary laboratory exploring urban sustainability through science and informed design, and center for health in the designed environment-this professor has had the opportunity to develop novel approaches to human issues and the designed environment. This teaching method has developed to encompass deep collaboration in design and health, and the method has been built on opportunities for trans-disciplinary technology, health and design based research. The exploration will include a set of best practices for collaboration with arrange of students, disciplines and methodologies. The work includes the description of project-based learning, design thinking, human centered design and informed design teaching to a diverse set of students at many levels and from many disciplines.
