Pennsylvania Sociological Society
01 Jan 1979
Abstract
Over the past ten years there has been a dramatic growth in program evaluation of human services. This growth has been inspired by a desire to understand how human service programs succeed or fail & to provide greater accountability regarding the operation of these programs. The contributions of social scientists & social workers as program evaluators have expanded during this same ten years. Program evaluation has become a major career area for social scientists & social workers. Future development of this career area requires decisions regarding proper professional training, certification or licensing requirements, ethical standards, & establishment of employment networks. With adequate attention to these issues, the next ten years should involve a continued growth in program evaluation in the human services as a major career perspective for social scientists & social workers.
