The state space approach to H ∞ control problem, proposed by DGKF [1], is an limportant contribution to both robust control theory and engineering. The central part of the design procedure by using this method is to solve two indefinite Riccati equations. The solutions are functions of a parameter γ. In this paper, the structure of the γ-domain on which the Riccati solutions exist and/or are positive semidefinite are investigated. Moreover, some properties of the lower bounds of the domain are also given. By using these properties, a quadratically convergent algorithm can be developed to compute the lower bounds of the γ-domain.
