Abstract
The rapid development of microwave and optical electronics over the past decades led to the natural merger of these important technologies, and microwave photonics emerged as a viable, exciting field of research with many potential areas of applications. This paper highlights some of the current and anticipated trends in microwave photonics. In particular, three areas are concentrated on: high speed fiberoptic links, optically controlled microwave devices and selected application areas. Emphasis is placed on research performed in the author's laboratory.
