Arctic Sea Ice Motion Dataset: RADARSAT-2 ScanSAR Images and Sparse GNSS Buoy Observations
17 Mar 2026
Abstract
This dataset contains Arctic sea ice drift measurements derived from RADARSAT-2 ScanSAR imagery, collected during the SIDEx campaign. It includes:
Sparse GNSS buoy observations projected into pixel coordinates, serving as ground truth for validation.
Precomputed optical flow fields produced by 48 state-of-the-art deep learning models for motion estimation.
One pair (sample) of raw SAR image in PNG format
The dataset is intended for researchers in remote sensing, oceanography, and climate science, as well as computer vision and machine learning practitioners working on geophysical applications. It supports evaluation of optical flow methods on real SAR data, development of new motion estimation algorithms, and benchmarking for Arctic navigation and climate modeling.
