ERA5-Land Air Temperatures by Epidemiological Week for Bogota, Colombia, 2000-2022
2025
Abstract
This dataset is part of the ESCALA (Study of Urban Health and Climate Change in Informal Settlements in Latin America) project that was funded by the Lacuna Fund of the Meridian Institute https://lacunafund.org/.
This data consists of air temperature aggregated by epidemiological week from 2000-2022 from ERA5-Land data (European Centre for Medium-Range
Weather Forecasts https://cds.climate.copernicus.eu/datasets/reanalysis-era5-land). ERA5-Land data consists of reanalysis model information with a spatial resolution of 0.1° x 0.1° (approximately 9 km), available from 1950 to the present with hourly temporal resolution. The AirTemp2m data were calculated from hourly data by selecting the study period, and were later aggregated to a daily scale and then to an epidemiological week scale. The air temperature variable at 2 meters with hourly resolution was processed to calculate average, minimum and maximum temperature (°C) per epidemiological week. Data cleaning included: (1) The original data are in NetCDF (.nc) format, °K (degrees Kelvin) and UTC format. Data were initially converted to °C and to UTC-5, which is the time zone for Colombia. (2) The data were then aggregated to a daily time scale and later to an epidemiological week, and exported in tabular format. (3) The attributes LAT and LON were added and indicate the location of the center of each pixel.
