Growing Temperature Days by Epidemiological Week in Bogota, Colombia, 2000-2022
2025
Abstract
This dataset is part of the ESCALA (Study of Urban Health and Climate Change in Informal Settlements in Latin America) project that was funded by the Lacuna Fund of the Meridian Institute https://lacunafund.org/.
This dataset contains air temperature from weather monitoring stations by epidemiological week in Bogota, Colombia, 2000-2022. The data were provided by IDEAM (in Spanish: Instituto de Hidrología, Meteorología y Estudios Ambientales). Weather stations were selected based on data availablity for the period of study. Data cleaning included: (1) Degree-day temperatures were estimated with base temperatures at 0.5°C intervals, from 0.0°C to 27.5°C, in epidemiological weeks. (2) The calculated temperatures indicate an accumulated value in relation to a threshold (Tb). (3) To calculate degree-days in epidemiological weeks, the daily average temperature for each day is determined and compared to a threshold value. Then, the accumulated daily degree-days are added over the epidemiological the week. Several missing data points were identified for the analysis period; for those cases, no technique was applied to fill in the missing data and the weekly values were reported as NaN.
