African American women Camden (N.J.) Intersectionality Resilience African American Studies
This qualitative study explores the narratives of African American female college students from Camden, New Jersey, focusing on their experiences of academic resilience. Through in-depth interviews, the study investigates how race, gender, and place intersect to shape these students' resilience. Key findings reveal that these students develop remarkable resilience from the diverse challenges they face daily. To support students from similar backgrounds, higher education institutions must recognize the value of their experiences, understand the role of intersectional oppression in shaping their resilience, and go beyond providing resources to create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters both academic and personal growth.
