Research indicates that stress significantly impacts undergraduate nursing students' academic performance and overall well-being, leading to burnout and an increased risk of adverse psychological health conditions. Compared to non-nursing peers, nursing students have higher stress levels from the demands of rigorous academic coursework, clinical rotations, and various non-academic factors. Mindfulness has been studied as an effective approach to reducing stress levels in nursing students. However, there is limited literature examining creativity's role in alleviating nursing student stress. With growing recognition of this problem, formal training to develop coping skills for managing high stress levels is still in the early stages of integration into nursing school curricula. A gap in the literature exists regarding the impact of mindfulness and creativity on nursing students' stress levels. This explanatory sequential mixed methods follow-up variant study sought to determine if mindfulness and creativity training could positively impact stress levels in undergraduate nursing students. Two participants completed a demographic survey, a three-week mindfulness and creativity training, a post-training evaluation, and pre- and post-training assessments that measured the participants' stress and mindfulness levels and creative mindset. Participants also created a creative artifact and participated in a focus group. Results indicated differences in the participants' self-reported stress, trait mindfulness, and creativity assessment scores after the mindfulness and creativity training. There was a noted reduction in the overall self-reported stress, suggesting a perceived reduction in their stress levels. Findings suggest that nursing students would benefit from mindfulness and creativity training while in nursing school, with recommendations for nursing school curricula to incorporate such training to aid students in effectively coping with the stress levels during their nursing school experience.
