Abstract
With the changes in employee demographics and new generations showing a demand for a variety of nontraditional employee benefits, the benefits being offered are largely being questioned. Coupled with the challenges of communicating a complex benefits ecosystem and being financially prudent, employers are forced to scrutinize every benefit offering in order to build the most attractive and cost-effective employee benefits plan. Yet the benefits offered by employers have largely remained the same, as has the way they are offered - despite the fact that employees are loudly asking for change. So, the question becomes, when significant evidence is showing the desire for change in employee benefits, why aren't employers changing their benefit offerings? This paper contributes to the research in employee benefits by proving, using 7,500 responses from the Willis Towers Watson Global Attitudes in Benefits Survey Data via qualitative analysis, that satisfaction with employer benefits drives greater company support, stronger job performance, more loyal employees and greater employee engagement. Since majority of employers are legally obligated to offer benefits, and there are several organizational gains in doing so, it behooves organizations to better align employee benefits offerings with the benefits needs and asks of its employee population, more efficiently utilizing existing spend.
