Abstract
Technology has significantly impacted American life. Children today grow up with a profusion of electronic wonders. Technology use in schools has lagged behind technological uses in society as a whole. As school districts strive to meet public expectations for technology use, school budgets devote significant dollars to technology related initiatives designed to improve student achievement. While money has been spent on technology, districts struggle to document improvement in student achievement that justifies the expenditures. School districts examine the manner in which technology is used in the classroom to develop successful models of learning that can be used to meaningfully integrate technology into the curriculum. The purpose of this study was to determine factors that influence meaningful technology integration into the high school curriculum. Using a suburban high school recognized for its outstanding use of technology, exemplary teachers participated in this case study. The results indicate that exemplary teachers' held beliefs that educational technology would lead to improved opportunities for students' learning. School and department culture, computer access and access to basic skills, training time, and instructional methods were all factors influencing meaningful integration of technology into the high school curriculum.
