High school transition School-based physical therapy Student self-assessment Youth
Aim: This study aimed to investigate youths', parents', and school physical therapists' (PTs), perspectives of the Youth Engaging Transition (YET)'s feasibility, acceptability, and relevance. Methods: With adult support, nine youth completed the YET, then each triad member provided feedback about their experience (n=27). Results: Adults agreed that the YET's Section 1 (S1) and S2 were feasible. Three triads questioned the youth's understanding of the YET. Parents agreed that the YET's S1 and S2 were acceptable. Three school PTs disagreed that S2 was an appropriate scope/depth. Five triads questioned the YET's length and repetitiveness. More youth perceived the S2 of the YET as acceptable than feasible. School PTs and youth reported that the YET was relevant. Perhaps due to transition planning experience, some parents did not learn new information by completing the YET. Parents' and school PTs' ratings were aligned suggesting a common experience with the YET interview. Conclusions: Results of this pilot study suggest that the YET has promise as a feasible, acceptable, and relevant transition planning instrument. Larger studies investigating the validity and reliability of the YET should include modifications to the YET, involve other transition team members, and ascertain the team's previous level of involvement in the planning process.
