Abstract

Education--Finance Critical race theory Disposition (Philosophy) School business administrators School resources management Public Administration
This case study examination of School Business Administrators' (SBA) dispositions demonstrates that institutional racism can be perpetuated as well as disrupted through decision points made during the management of high school funds, operations, and the school resource ecosystem at-large. Analyzed through a Critical Race Theory framework, data was collected from twelve semi-structured interviews, one focus group, and thirty-eight supporting documents provided by SBAs working in the same large public school district. Findings reconceptualize the role of school-level business administrators by illustrating their capacity to promote or hinder racially equitable access to educational opportunities. By connecting patterns of practice to belief systems, the Dispositions Typology presented provides a useful tool for action-oriented change to affect racial justice in education and beyond.
