Leadership--Study and teaching Leadership--Training Educational leadership Education
The range of opportunities in the healthcare business has compelled today's leaders to develop excellent organizational skills. Due to generational and environmental factors, high-potential senior leadership has begun to diminish. More than ever, organizations realize now there is a need to offer interventions that develop the right skills in their directors and senior leadership. This case study explored a leadership initiative in an integrated healthcare system located in the East Coast. The Leadership Institute Program (LIP) was designed for their selected group of leaders with the aim of developing key competencies. Although there are many common competencies a leader has to master, the study has identified the most critical skills that are essential for new generation leaders in both clinical and non-clinical positions. The investigation conceptualized diversity development, work base development, and co-leadership development as the three main areas where leadership awareness was most significant. One of the program's expectations was that the practitioners would attempt to master the key competencies offered to enhance their professional development and talents. Subsequently, the research has scrutinized the influence of the core competency development on their performance as healthcare leaders. A qualitative case study method was employed to collect data that enquires the level of skills mastery and its specificity to healthcare through in-person interview of a small group from those who have graduated. Drawing information from the participants and describing their experience on the overall utilization of tools, technology and resources provided to support efficient decision-making and issues resolution.
