Abstract

Trauma centers Medical care--Methodology Medical care--Quality control Human-Computer Interaction
Checklists have been created to assist with the performance of sequential tasks, thereby reducing human errors and improving communication and collaboration. Although paper-based checklists have improved safety in aviation and healthcare, digitization of these checklists may lead to increased efficiency in task performance by allowing faster access to data through integration with other systems and sharing of information through common displays. Digital checklists can also adapt to varying scenarios, especially in non-routine events where checklists could provide support for poorly recalled or necessary information. Attempts have been made to digitize checklists, but even a simple translation of tasks from analog to digital may compromise efficiency and user satisfaction, as evidenced in the implementation of electronic health records. As electronic systems become increasingly integrated into their environments, context-aware computing has been used to support dynamic teamwork in the healthcare domain.
