Abstract
Basic science research forms the foundational groundwork of any medical discipline. This is of particular importance in the field of headache medicine in which much uncertainty remains regarding pathophysiology and the many treatment gaps that persist. In laboratories and clinics around the world, countless researchers have dedicated their efforts to investigating the underlying mechanisms of headache and facial pain that result in extraordinary disability globally. Their research is fundamental to advancing our understanding of the etiology and biomarkers of headache disorders and paves the way for the development of novel therapeutics.
