Abstract
The issue of accessibility for performers and participants of differing ability has become a significant issue in the arts world in recent years, and professional theater companies have begun to try different methods of accommodation. The goal of my research was to collect information on accessibility issues in community theater, and to learn about what accommodations are available to community theater performers and participants with differing abilities. With that goal in mind, I conducted case studies of three small community theaters in the DC Metro Area. After conducting six interviews, I concluded that audio narration, relaxed performances, and communication between managers and performers are the keys to successfully accommodating theater company members with differing abilities.
