Abstract
This study sets out to answer the question: how can New Jersey's arts service organizations advance racial equity and diversity through their programs, services, and collaborative efforts? Highlighting the programs, services, educational offerings, and internal work of arts service organizations will demonstrate the progress, or lack thereof, related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the arts field. Using multiple case studies, six subject New Jersey based arts service organizations were examined. The goal of this study is to provide a statewide, transformative model and guide for arts service organizations and state arts agencies on how they can foster programs, services, and collaborative efforts to support their constituents in the areas of racial equity and diversity. This study relies on qualitative data gathered through interviews and analysis of organizational documents. This study proves that statewide arts service organizations are able to advance racial equity and diversity predominantly through: strategic funding, capacity building, cultural mapping, and partnerships.
