Abstract
This culminating performance project explores how dance/movement therapy can be beneficial for Brown and Black bodies experiencing trauma. There is currently a lack of research that highlights the physical occurrences that Brown and Black bodies endure as they experience trauma. This performance project explores the history, and values of liturgical, traditional African, and social dance. Through these forms, participants highlight values and themes that brought a sense of healing both individually and collectively. The completed project will encourage dance/movement therapists to further connect with and support Brown and Black bodies, as they journey through the process of healing their trauma through movement.
