Abstract

Press Reporters and reporting
From the first cable news program to the influx of channels we now have access to, several studies have reported on the impact television news has had in America. News reporting has taken on a life of its own with the advancement of social media and cell phones, letting everyday people engage in journalistic reporting from their living rooms, or even out on the streets as they discover news while it happens. Within the research below, you will find how the impact of news has changed throughout the course of modern reporting and the importance of diverse representation within news outlets. The analytical methods used within this study were qualitative research, with interview questions directed at industry leaders, as well a review of qualitative data, with the examination of Pew Research Center surveys across America. These methodologies led the researcher to an understanding of the overall impact of Black News Channel on all audience members, especially those from diverse backgrounds looking for a more authentic view of their communities. The significance of these findings can be used to help determine the next steps for leaders in the news industry as they work to diversify work environments and report on stories of marginalized communities with a lens of authenticity.
