Abstract
The purpose of this culminating project was to design a program proposal to develop a dance/movement therapy program at Miracles in Progress, a residential program for men who are homeless and in recovery. Miracles in Progress is located in the Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where homelessness and addiction affect and exasperate each other. The project examined existing treatments for addiction, systemic factors of homelessness, cultural aspects and gaps in the literature, and how dance/movement therapy could fill the gaps within current treatment. A program proposal was written to address how dance/movement therapy can expand current treatment at Miracles in Progress through its unique, nonverbal quality. The aim of this author was to understand an expanded view of how dance/movement therapy can be applied with this population. This culminating project also serves as a way to gain knowledge of the grant and the program writing processes, as it can be considered an essential skill in a field where funding is a consistent concern.
